Electrotherapy units are typically made up of a battery-powered gadget with cables connecting it to adhesive electrode pads that are applied to the skin. Because the electrode pads are sticky, they will stick to your skin. A modest electric current is given to the skin via the electrode once the electrodes are attached and the unit is turned on. Several recent electrotherapy devices eliminate the need for cables by combining electrodes and battery power in a single unit that can be worn invisibly on the back, arm, leg, or elsewhere while work or other daily activities. Adjusting the level of stimulation is done with a hand-held controller. While many people find electrotherapy to be beneficial, others do not.
